The office of the former first lady of the United States, Michelle Obama, indicated this Tuesday that she will not run for the elections on November 5, 2024.
“Mrs. Obama supports President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris,” said her Cabinet Communications Director, Crystal Carson, in a statement carried by NBC News.
He also assured that, “as he has already said several times, former first lady Michelle Obama is not going to run for president.”
Former President Barack Obama has made it clear that he agrees with the re-election of President Joe Biden and that, according to close sources, the former first lady intends to help the current president’s campaign in the fall, as she did four years ago.
The clarification comes after Republican lawmakers, including Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene and Senator Ted Cruz, said the former first lady could replace Biden in the November election.
A survey conducted last November by The Center Square Voters’ Voice Poll found that Democratic voters support President Joe Biden more than any other declared candidate seeking the nomination, as well as several hypothetical candidates across the country, except one :Michelle Obama.
“Michelle Obama currently has the best of multiple worlds,” David Byler, head of research at Noble Predictive Insights, said at the time. “She is a celebrity with almost universal name recognition. She is beloved by Democrats, who remember her years as first lady. But she does not have the series of failures and mistakes that follow anyone who holds formal political office. “.
When voters were asked about the former first lady, she performed even better in a hypothetical matchup. Michelle Obama has strong support from women, people under 55, moderate Democrats, voters without children and voters with children under 18, according to the poll.
